Food Business - Food Safety Regulations

Winchester City Council's Commercial Team carry out a variety of activities concerned with food safety. We are responsible for enforcing food safety in some 1100 premises, ranging from mobile catering units to large scale food production.

A variety of foods are sampled throughout the year to monitor quality, to check compliance with legal standards and identify any potential problems. Investigations may be undertaken regarding food complaints, food poisoning and infectious disease control.

The Team also provides food safety training for food handlers, gives advice to food businesses and the public and promotes food safety through a number of initiatives.

New food safety legislation came into force on the 1st January 2006 please visit www.food.gov.uk for further information.
